How we met back in the 80’s in our 20’s

Individuals in their 20’s are usually looking for a good time and not someone to marry. Back in the 80’s I met my future husband and had no idea that my life was about to change. As a young girl fresh out of high school, enjoying college, I had no idea when I met John that my life would be set. I had ideals and dreams, ready to get my college education and travel, but apparently life had other plans.
In the 80’s, women were about empowerment and I was invested in the movement. I enjoyed taking part in local clubs, showing my feminism and feeling confident in myself. It was during a local college club meeting that I met John. He was cute and someone who caught my eye. I walked over, being ever so bold, and introduced myself. Little did I know that he already had his eyes on me and was just waiting to approach me.
Sometimes, being bold can be a deal breaker with guys, especially those who are not forward thinkers. However, John had an open mind and liked my approach. We talked into the night about our college goals, hopes and aspirations. We listened to music and opened up to one another, something I had been unable to do with guys previously.
After parting ways late that night, I couldn’t get John off my mind. It wasn’t like today when you have Facebook and Instagram where you can look at photos or keep track of your love interest. It was a totally different time in the 80’s, a more mysterious way to enjoy a relationship. The very next day, John found me on the quad and we have been inseparable ever since.
After finishing college, we got married and started a family. It has been many years since that fateful day back in the 80’s, when I took a chance and approached a boy that seemed interesting. Never in my wildest dreams would I have imagined that he would later become my husband and father to my children. It just goes to show that you never know what life will bring your way. Take chances and talk to people who spark your interest. You may find the love of your life is waiting to be approached, if only you take the chance! Be willing and you may find a nice chance in your life by taking risks!
